I currently work at Derma Spa, a medical aesthetic clinic in Victoria, BC. The clinic has been operating for just over 26 years and is the last family-run medical aesthetics practice in Victoria. The owner, Dr. Hollis, previously worked as a surgeon at the Royal Jubilee Hospital before opening his own plastic surgery clinic, which later evolved into a fully medical aesthetics–focused practice.

What I love most about my job is my clients. It’s incredibly rewarding to come to work every day and build real connections with people who often become friends. That initial fear—when every client feels new and unfamiliar—eventually fades, and suddenly you’re excited to hear about Linda’s honeymoon or Amy’s latest dating update. On top of that, completing a series of treatments and seeing positive patient outcomes is the icing on the cake. Building trust with clients is everything, and for many providers, that trust turns into meaningful relationships.

One of my biggest personal achievements since graduating from Body Bar is realizing that I genuinely get to help people and positively impact their confidence. There are moments after a consultation where I pause and think, wow - I can actually teach people about how to navigate their skin and assist them with how to address their concerns. Helping patients feel more comfortable in their skin is something I’m incredibly passionate about. 

I could never choose just one, but my top three would be singular vein spot treatments, extractions, and microneedling. What they all have in common is that they never get old. Seeing the skin post-microneedling once healed is truly chef’s kiss. Extractions and vein treatments offer instant satisfaction—you know right away that you’ve made a difference. The best feeling is treating a nest of veins and watching one pulse affect the surrounding area.

It won’t always feel unknown or intimidating—so enjoy learning and discovering your own style. No two providers are the same, and that’s exactly why clients will connect with you. This industry is constantly evolving, with new devices, parameters, and information every year, which keeps it exciting. Don’t oversell—clients can tell. Honesty and genuineness build long-term trust. Never make anyone feel small for not knowing about skin; make it approachable and fun. And remember, reps will promise the sun, the moon, and maybe the entire galaxy—always do your own research. This is such a rewarding job, and I couldn’t be happier with my career path.
